For all 1973 thru 1980 Kaw 900 & 1000 models.....All engines use 8 clutch friction plates....(Except KZ1000E/ST Shaft - For KZ1000E / Shaft plates - See entry below) Left: Barnett high-perf clutch plates are stronger than stock plates, more resistant to cracking, and have considerably more grab than the OEM item....... Steel clutch plates.... For all 1973 thru 1980 900 & 1000 models  .....(Except KZ1000E / Shaft - For KZ1000E/ST Shaft plates - See entry below) Kawasaki OEM original equipment steel plates are now NLA..... These repros are made in Japan and are excellent quality The steel clutch plates in the Kaw 900's and 1000's are tough, and sandblasting the surfaces can clean up a lot of problems... But once warped, they can't be serviced and cause a lot of clutch trouble ....... A helpful tech tip: The Barnett clutch plates are an excellent item that solves a number of issues with the Kaw 900/1000 clutch.... One easy, 10 minute modification can make them even better...... Take each plate, and with a few strokes of a file bevel the sharp edge of both sides of each location tab.....just enough to take the sharp corner off..... This will retain the extra strength of these plates, and make them engage and disengage as smooth as stock plates.... NOTE:  The newer Barnett plates (Since app. 2020) do not require this mod
